An Unrealistic and Unimaginable Society
How horrible would it be to live in such a world where there
is no privacy, no trust between neighbors, and no rights? To be constantly spied
on by a “Big Brother” figure? All around, there are cameras constantly
recording every one of your movements. Any suspicious activities are directly
reported to the elite heads of the Administration. They can look through all of
your private information such as cell phone records, social media, and text
messages. All the reasoning they need is suspicion. In this theoretic society,
the evidence gathered such as the constant camera recordings can be used against
you in court. Even though this evidence was not gathered under a search
warrant, it can definitely be used as legitimate evidence.
There is also no trust or relationship between neighbors.
The extent of neighbors is yelling to “keep your kids off my lawn” and filing
noise complaints. Neighbors are expected and encouraged to report any
suspicious activities and betray each other’s trust. An age of neighborhood
barbeque or party has long passed. There is “no night and no day” (104) when it
comes to the constant eye watching every single moment of your life. The civil
justice has become slots of Vegas casinos. A high reward for whoever plays it
the most.
This society, how fake it might be, is unimaginable. We live
in this perfect little world that none of this is true. We are protected under
our government through laws such as the Patriot Act. CCTVs everywhere help us
feel more secure in homes, schools, and workplace. I hope this society, where
we are all so free and bonded in brotherhood, never changes.
The big brother part reminds me of Animal Farm and makes me think about how great our society really is. Sometimes our society seems really oppressive, but when you hear about these terrible utopian societies you realize how amazing ours really is. Imagining the world you described would be terrible.
